Finlay Bops

At sixteen months old, Finlay is quite a character. His speech is coming on leaps and bounds as he picks up new words almost daily. Yesterday both Finlay and I were in the kitchen when he went over to his cupboard and started pulling bowls out and dropping them to the floor, after asking Finlay to stop doing this a couple of times I said to him, “sorry Finlay, but I’m going to have to ban you from this cupboard, I’ve asked you to stop dropping the bowls and you didn’t listen”. Having finished explaining this to Finlay he ran off towards Rachel saying “Banned! Banned!” he tugged at Rachel’s leg and looked up at her and said sorrowfully “Banned!”
It was all very comical. Rachel and I don’t shout at Finlay, I don’t believe it can have any type of positive effect on a child. I prefer to explain why he can’t do something, or tell him, looking him in the eye, when he has done something wrong. We choose to give Finlay choices and most of the time he’ll make the right one. Sometimes he’ll test us by climbing on the stairs when he knows he is not to, but when we start counting to ten and tell him that if we get to ten we won’t spin him around (his favourite activity) by 5 or 6 he will come running over rather than miss out on his spins.
He is such an affectionate little boy, he loves to give us cuddles and kisses and even went to give my brother a kiss yesterday for his birthday. He adores his (Grand)Ma, (Grand)Dad, and (Uncle) Marc, they are so good with him, it truly is a godsend to have them look after Finlay in the week to allow Rachel and I to continue our employment.
Rachel and I have now chosen to work part-time to allow us to have more time at home with Finlay. I now have Wednesdays off and it is one of the best decisions I’ve made. Last week was amazing. Colouring in, running around, tickling, cuddling, making endless cups of tea. Every minute was a joy.
Finlay is upstairs sleeping as I write this, some parents would be glad of the peace and quiet but I really miss him when he’s asleep. I miss the laughter and the running about. Granted it gives Rachel and I some alone time but I think as much as we both love our time together, I think we’d both, given the choice prefer to have Finlay about.
I’ll have to try and add some photos of Finlay and Rachel on here so you can all see them, I will try and get some nice ones of my desktop computer.
Right then folks, I’m starting to get quite a thirst so am going to call it a night on this post and go and get myself a pint of squash.
Will blog again tomorrow if I think of anything to write about.
Night!
